David Leads Council in Passing Panhandling Ordinance

In June 2008, David proposed a panhandling ordinance to the council to prevent aggressive begging in Kelso. The council panned the proposal, with only David voting to support it initially. However, after hearing the community frustration that followed the rejection of the proposal, including a TDN editorial supporting David's position, the council followed David's lead and passed the ordinance at the following council meeting on a 6-1 vote.

Teen Recreation

  • Youth need appropriate recreational opportunities that are of interest to them, not just to the adults who control the purse strings.
ACTION: I have advocated the proposed skate park for years, even though I've never set foot on a skateboard (at least, not successfully)! I've led the council to fund a matching grant for the project, and to approve a grant writer position in addition to that funding. I've also contributed personally to the project, as I encourage you all to do.
ACTION: In 2005, I worked to help manage the Rotary clubs' construction of the Catlin Rotary Spray Park to provide some nice cool relief for our kids in the summer months.
