Agreement with Police Cuts Costs, Saves Jobs

When preliminary budgets looked to require significant reductions in police staffing, David worked with the police chief to come up with a proposal to save money and officer jobs. While the original proposal to reduce officer wages by 5% was nixed by the police union, an arrangement to reduce overtime by a like amount was implemented in 2011, saving three officer positions.

ACTION: Since I joined the council, the police department has added officers and is now at full staffing.

  • While jail is not the answer to all of the city's problems, the capacity available in the new jail can and has reduced crime by keeping repeat criminals off the streets.
