David Receives Endorsement From The Daily News

The Daily News editorial board today announced its endorsement of David for Kelso City Council. After meeting with him earlier in the month, the editors felt David was a "quick study" and "an agent of responsible change," admonishing Kelso voters that they "would be ill-served by putting any of his three challengers in his at-large seat."

As voters begin to receive their primary ballots in early August, the paper appears to encourage David's election not only in the primary, but also in the general election taking place in November. Interestingly, this site agrees with their assessment!

David Refuses to Rubber-Stamp Recommendations Blindly

When the airport board recommended one candidate for FBO operator in 2006, the council learned a second candidate was only percentage points behind the leader in a process that was rather subjective. David asked that the council be given the information they need to make an educated decision on the candidates, and called out staff for denying his requests. In a tight decision, the council voted 4-3 to investigate the candidates further. At that point, one candidate chose to withdraw rather than provide the requested information to the council.

David supports the idea of a new senior center, but not a multi-million dollar recreational facility that would compete with area businesses and the YMCA.

David Questions Best Use of Riverfront Property

When the city first considered using its riverfront property for sports fields, David suggested that it may be advantageous to reserve the parcel for development, speculating that the value to the city could exceed $1 million. Staff had estimated the value at approximately $400,000. Exactly one year after the initial story, the city did receive offers from developers wishing to purchase the prime property for condominium development, and the eventual sales price? It was in excess of $1 million.
