Living Within Your Means

  • The city should operate within its means, minimizing the cost of government wherever possible, and maintaining appropriate operating reserves.
ACTION: The council has passed a balanced budget each of the years I've been involved, and our general fund balance has increased in that time to a comfortable level.

  • Even though no one wants utility rate increases, our utility funds must generate sufficient revenue to operate at mandated quality levels and to maintain and improve the current infrastructure.
ACTION: I voted for utility rates as recommended by our Public Works department, which would have been sufficient to allow some overdue sewer improvements that are not possible with the rates that were ultimately approved.
